Special Issue on Microwave-Photonic Interrogation and Advanced Fiber-Optic Sensors for Multi-Parameter Measurement
Aims and Scope
Microwave-photonic interrogation and advanced fiber-optic sensing are increasingly converging to enable high-speed, multiplexed, and intelligent measurement systems. This Special Issue aims to bring together theoretical, numerical, and experimental studies addressing the design, interrogation, signal processing, and practical implementation of fiber-optic sensors within microwave-photonic architectures.
Particular emphasis will be placed on addressed and multi-addressed fiber Bragg structures, microwave-photonic frequency-to-amplitude conversion, optical vector analysis, comb-based interrogation, photodetection and radio-frequency signal processing, and machine-learning-assisted parameter reconstruction. Contributions on Fabry-Perot, interferometric, distributed, etched-fiber, and functionalized sensing structures are also welcome when integrated with advanced interrogation or multi-parameter measurement concepts.
The subject is timely because modern monitoring systems require simultaneous measurement of multiple physical, chemical, and biomedical parameters with high speed, compact instrumentation, remote operation, and improved robustness. Microwave-photonic approaches can transfer spectral information from the optical domain to precisely measurable radio-frequency components, offering new opportunities for simplified interrogation and intelligent data interpretation.
The Special Issue will cover fundamental principles, sensor and system modeling, experimental prototypes, calibration and compensation methods, uncertainty analysis, multiplexing, neural-network-based interrogation, and applications in structural health monitoring, energy, aerospace, biomedicine, and industrial process control. Original research articles, methodological papers, and critical reviews addressing system-level performance and practical deployment are particularly encouraged.
