Call for Papers-SI on AFNOPPA 2026

Special Issue on Advanced Functional Nanomaterials for Optical, Photonic and Photoresponsive Applications

Aims and Scope

Functional nanomaterials are increasingly central to advances in optics and photonics because their composition, dimensionality, defects, interfaces, and surface chemistry can be engineered to control light absorption, emission, charge transfer, and photoresponse. This Special Issue aims to bring together recent experimental and theoretical developments in the design, synthesis, characterization, and application of advanced optical and photoactive materials. Particular attention will be given to semiconductor nanostructures, heterojunctions, metal oxides, hybrid materials, thin films, plasmonic systems, and emerging low-dimensional materials with tunable optical properties. Contributions addressing structure–property relationships, band-gap engineering, photoluminescence, nonlinear optical behavior, optical sensing, photocatalytic and photoelectrochemical processes, optoelectronic devices, and light-driven energy or environmental applications are welcome. Studies integrating spectroscopy, microscopy, computational modeling, machine learning, or advanced device fabrication are also encouraged. Both fundamental investigations and application-oriented studies demonstrating stability, reproducibility, device performance, or scalable processing are particularly suitable. By connecting materials chemistry and physics with optical functionality, this Special Issue seeks to highlight scalable strategies and mechanistic insights that can support next-generation photonic, sensing, energy-conversion, and photoresponsive technologies across interdisciplinary research in physics, chemistry, materials science, and engineering.
