About the Journal

Sustainability in Smart Cities (SSC) is an interdisciplinary journal dedicated to advancing knowledge, innovation, and practical solutions at the intersection of urban sustainability, digital transformation, and intelligent infrastructure. The journal aims to provide a global platform for researchers, policymakers, urban planners, engineers, designers, and industry professionals to share high-quality research that supports the development of cities that are smart, inclusive, resilient, and environmentally sustainable.

The journal seeks to:

  • Promote cutting-edge research on sustainable urban systems enabled by smart technologies. 
  • Bridge theory, policy, and practice in the planning, governance, and operation of smart cities.
  • Support evidence-based solutions for climate adaptation, resource efficiency, low-carbon development, and urban resilience.
  • Encourage interdisciplinary collaboration across engineering, environmental science, urban studies, public policy, data science, architecture, and social sciences.
  • Highlight innovative strategies that improve quality of life, social equity, and long-term urban sustainability.

The journal is a Gold Open Access journal, online readers don't have to pay any fee.

The journal is currently free to the authors, and all Article Processing Charges (APCs) are waived until 31 December 2026.

Articles in Online First are peer-reviewed, accepted articles that are not yet assigned to volumes/issues, but have a DOl and are fully citable. Please note that the article in Online First version will be removed and the final version will appear in the associated published online volumes/issues of the publication if the final version is assigned to volumes/issues.
