Prof. Yuekuan William Zhou is currently a Full Professor in Central South University (CSU) since 2026, Director of Center for Clean Energy and Smart Cities, Shenzhen Research Institute of Central South University. Vice Chairman and Secretary General for AsiaCity 2050: International Conference on High-Quality Construction and Sustainable Cities. World's Top 2% Scientist both for Career-Long Achievement and Single-Year Achievement (2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025), Highly Ranked Scholar by ScholarGPS (2024), and Elsevier Highly Cited Chinese Researchers. The winner for 10 Highly Cited Papers Awards (ESI 1%), High Impact Paper Award, Outstanding PhD Candidate Award, 2023-2024 Best Paper Award in Energy and Buildings (Elsevier), High Impact Paper Award 2023-International Journal ‘Energy Reviews’ (Elsevier). Co-founder of internationally renowned platforms, including the International Innovation Platform and Innovation Alliance under Construction 4.0. Prof. Zhou is also actively engaged with international energy research networks, including the IEA Energy in Buildings and Communities Programme (IEA EBC), contributing to global collaboration on smart buildings, low-carbon communities, energy flexibility, and sustainable urban energy systems.
Before joining CSU, he worked as an assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) for over 5 years. As PI, he independently supervised over ten PhD students and MPhil students. As first/corresponding author, he has published over 120 SCI journal articles in Nature Communications, Energy & Environmental Science, Advanced Materials, Cell Reports Physical Science, etc. As Editor-in-Chief of Sustainability in Smart Cities, Prof. Zhou brings academic leadership in sustainable energy systems and smart urban development, with a research portfolio well aligned with the journal’s focus on innovative pathways for efficient, resilient, smart and sustainable cities.
