Special Issue on Distributed Sensor Data Aggregation and Safe Coordination for Unmanned Systems: Theory, Algorithms, and Applications

Aims and Scope

This Special Issue focuses on the rapid advancement of unmanned systems across industrial, healthcare, and environmental domains, where there is an increasing demand for robust, scalable, and real-time approaches to data fusion, decision-making, and safe coordination among heterogeneous autonomous agents.

The scope covers original research on the design, analysis, and implementation of distributed sensor data aggregation platforms and coordination frameworks for unmanned systems, with particular emphasis on concurrency, safety, and resilience under uncertainty. It seeks to bridge theoretical foundations—including concurrent data processing, distributed systems, and graph-theoretic observability—with practical system implementations such as embedded operating system cores, real-time communication protocols, resource-constrained computing environments, and web-based observability dashboards.

Research contributions may include, but are not limited to, novel data aggregation architectures, buffer management strategies for zero data loss, fault-tolerant multi-robot coordination mechanisms, formally verified safety guarantees, and experimental validation on simulated or real-world unmanned platforms. Submissions should present rigorous methodological advances alongside demonstrable applicability to real-world IUTS challenges.
