Introduction: Dr. Xinliang Tian is a professor at the School of Ocean and Civil Engineering, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China. He has served as a member of ITTC Cross Committe and guest editor for Ocean Energies Special Issue of the Sustainable Horizons academic journal.
He specializes in experimental approaches, advancing experimental techniques to support frontier physical exploration and the development of novel ocean engineering equipment. He developed the pure physical model testing methodologies "pure-MATCH" and "hybrid-MATCH", which have been applied to type-testing campaigns for 20 large floating wind turbine systems. As the Deputy Chief Designer, he has collaborated with the Tsung-Dao Lee Institute on the interdisciplinary "Hailing Project" for deap-sea neutrino detection since 2021. As the Principal Investigator, he was awarded the National Key R&D Program project "Deapsea Neutrino Detection Technology" in 2023. He has published 108 SCI-indexed papers. He also holds 57 granted invention patents and 2 granted U.S. patents.
He is a recipient of the Science and Technology Award from Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, Science and Technology Progress Award from China Ocean Engineering Consulting Association and Science and Technology Progress Award from China Society of Navigation.
