Shivakumara Palaiahnakote is an associate professor at the faculty of computer science and information technology, University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Previously, he was with the department of computer science, school of computing, the National University of Singapore from 2008 - 2013 as a research fellow on video text extraction and recognition project. He received B.Sc., M.Sc., M.Sc, and Ph.D. degrees in computer science respectively in 1995, 1999, 2001 and 2005 from the University of Mysore, Karnataka, India. 

He has been serving as an associate editor for IEEE Transactions on Multimedia , Pattern Recognition, International Journal on Document Image Analysis and Recognition, Springer Nature Computer Science, ACM Transactions Asian and Low-Resource Language Information Processing. CAAI-Transactions on Intelligence in Technology, Malaysian Journal of Computer Science. 

He received many prestigious award include “Dynamic Indian of the Millennium” from KG foundation, India for his research contribution to the computer science field. He has published more than 300 papers in conferences and journals.
