Special Issue on Information Retrieval through IoT, Metaverse and Their Applications in Bio-inspired Computing

Aims and Scope

Nowadays, network broadcasting and Internet of Things (IoT) are the hearts of the human life style. They have numerous applications to different kinds of research domains that have huge impact on real life. Metaverse is a new term in research domain that becomes one of the emerging topics. By creating an immersive environment where people may engage in real time via digital avatars, Metaverse is predicted to revolutionise the way people connect. A globally dispersed computing and communication infrastructure made up of edge/cloud servers in addition to mobile devices is the foundation for this new type of immersive digital environment. Hyper-interactivity requires symmetric high-revolution content delivery as well as uniformly low and ultra-low network latency, all of which are beyond the capabilities of the current communication and network infrastructure. For instance, 720p resolution and 2 Mbps of downlink bandwidth are sufficient for video streaming on smartphones. While complex sceneries should be produced in real-time among avatars, Retina-level quality is preferable on a head-mounted display that is only a few centimetres away from the user's eyes. This places a larger demand on network bandwidth and latency. Humans are the primary players in the metaverse, which presents new opportunities and problems for network design. People would teleport and appear in various immersive virtual environments. Understanding and adjusting to changing customer expectations and behaviours is essential for creating successful metaverse experiences. Our network configurations and resource allocation can be improved if we can learn from and anticipate human activity in the metaverse. There are many open technical challenges, in both wireless access networks and core networks, from the physical layer to the application layer. This Special Issue invites papers for addressing networking and communication issues for the metaverse using 5G and beyond networks along with their application to multi-disciplinary areas including network broadcasting, social site as well as healthcare services.
