Special Issue on Augmented Reality for Airborne Operations: A Big Data and Data Engineering Perspective

Aims and Scope

The integration of 5G communication and IoT technologies in avionics has opened new opportunities for advancements, including the use of metaverse and augmented / virtual reality technologies. One area of research in this special issue will focus on the development of avionic systems for the metaverse era, including the challenges of developing avionic systems that can operate in the metaverse environment. This research will address the need for standardization and interoperability in avionics for the metaverse era, as well as the potential of avionics technologies to improve sustainability in the aviation industry.

Researchers will address the need for the impact of emerging technologies on regulatory frameworks and policies to ensure that avionics systems are adequately protected against cyber-attacks. This issue will focus on the development of new technologies that can enhance passenger experience, while also considering the environmental impact of avionics technologies. Overall, this special issue will bring together researchers, engineers, and technologists in the fields of aerospace, avionics, robotics, and related domains to address the current research gaps in avionics technology. We hope to identify and address the challenges of developing avionic systems for the metaverse era while improving cybersecurity measures, passenger experience, and sustainability in the aviation industry.
