Dr. Ning Zhang is a Full Professor at the Department of Economics, Shandong University. He obtained a B.E. degree in international trade from Shandong University, and a Ph.D. degree in environmental economics from Inha University, South Korea. His current research interest includes sustainability science and environmental and energy economics. He is an active and influential interdisciplinary researcher in the field of sustainability area. His international reputation for sustainability areas in developing countries has resulted in more than 100 publications, policy-making, international conferences, and committee invites, and participated in the UNFCCC COP conference. His publications appear in many highly ranked journals such as Science, Nature Climate Change, Nature Geoscience, Nature Sustainability, Nature Communications, Resource, Energy Economics, Ecological Economics, European Journal of Operational Research, Applied Energy Energy Policy, Energy, Journal of Cleaner Production, Resources, Conservation and Recycling, Ecological Indicators, Technological Forecasting, and Social Change and Sustainability, etc. Among those papers, 20 papers have been selected as the ESI top 1% highly cited papers. Based on the IDEAS/RePEc database, he ranked top 10 among the whole economists in the world. He received the Outstanding Youth scientist Foundation from the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and Outstanding Scholarship award from the China Scholarship Council (CSC), the best scholar award from Korea Energy Management Corporation (KEMCO), and the best paper award from the Ministry of Knowledge Economy Korea (MKE).

Regarding editorial work, He is serving as an editorial member of Technological Forecasting and Social Change and an associate editor of Social Science Journal. He has guest-edited many special issues in highly regarded Journals, he is also the co-organizer of the Sustainable Asia Conference. He is also the referee for over 50 journals and the national foundation related to sustainability.

Dr. Ning Zhang has been successful in obtaining research funding. He is the Principal Investigator of 3 research funding of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), co-principal investigator of the National Key R&D Program of China, and several provincial-level research funding with the total amount of about 3 million RMB Yuan. He has been involved in several multi-million RMB Yuan national key projects of China in environmental issues and climate change. His research outputs are frequently used as quantitative evidence in policy-making processes related to ecology and the environment. He has submitted over 10 policy proposals to central and local governments, and most of those have been adopted for policy-making in environmental policies.
